7. Ways of dealing with anger

It can help to write down your feelings. Don’t hold back or worry about anyone reading your words. Tap them out furiously on the keyboard and then delete it all, or scribble it onto paper and burn it or tear it to little pieces. Some people find that they can control their anger by going on a long vigorous walk or dancing wildly or playing loud music. Sometimes, it can help to hike up a hill in the middle of nowhere, turn your face to the sky and scream.

You might find some relief in listing the reasons why you feel angry. You may even want to shout or rant. A good friend or therapist will act as a shock absorber. It can help to physically release the anger. You could invest in a punch bag and a pair of boxing gloves; not only will this help the anger to dissipate but exercise is also a fabulous way to get your body flooded with endorphins. Some people find great comfort in breaking crockery, and being able to smash something solid can really ease fury. You will need to wear protective googles. You can pick up crockery in charity shops, or might even have something suitable lurking at the back of the kitchen cupboard. The action and the noise can be very therapeutic.
